Yarns at the Mercantile

Knitting Classes

Our mission is for you to learn for life, from start to finish with all the ends tucked in and to inspire and help you with all your projects.

March 14 or 21

Learn to Knit 3:00-5:00

Learn basic knitting and begin your own simple project (washcloth, scarf, infinite scarf, hat).   This class will include a skein of Plymouth Encore (or one of equal or lessor value) and a set of needles appropriate for the project you choose. Unfortunately your first project will most likely not be done by the end of the session, but you are welcome to call me to set up a time to return or stop in during another class to get free assistance with this project, cast off or to start a new one.

$35 Preregistration and a non-refundable payment is required for all classes.

Reversible Seamless Braided Cowl 5:30-7:30
This is an intermediate project with basic knowledge of knitting and purling required.  Other skills that will be used/taught include double point needles, conventional cast on, cables, and ribbed Kitchener cast off.   Unfortunately this project will most likely not be done by the end of the session, but you are welcome to call me to set up a time to return or stop in during another class to get free assistance with this project.   Samples are knitted in luxurious chunky baby alpaca, sparkly Hollywood (worsted & doubled) and perfect for spring/summer Sunseekers (dk & doubled).  Supplies needed depend on the look you choose but any size 10 - 13 double point needles will work and are available here or you may bring needles.
Yarn must be purchased at the Mercantile for this class.

Bandstand Summers Sweater

The nice thing about this sweater is it can be completed in 1 month ... 100% cotton ribbon yarn "Cottonation" great for a summer knitting project. It is a 3 session class and Lynn Franz is the teacher and is sharing many tips & techniques to improve our knitting skills.  The last class filled before we even posted it so we are offering it again on 3 Saturdays, July 25, and August 8 & 22 from 10 to 12 and the cost is $30.  If you are interested in joining the class please stop in soon to sign up and choose the yarn color so we can make sure to have enough for your sweater.
